Cost

Attending MCC is affordable!

Attending college can be a big financial commitment. You have to pay tuition, for books and supplies, food and housing, transportation, and other expenses. It can add up quickly.

 Mayland Community College is an excellent value when compared to 4-year colleges and universities.

Mayland Community College's Financial Aid Office is committed to assisting students with the costs of attending college. Scholarships, grants, part-time work, and childcare are a few types of aid available to qualified students. There is an application process for financial aid. We encourage all students to apply for financial assistance.

What are Mayland's admissions requirements?

 

To enroll in a program leading to an associate's degree, diploma, or certificate, you must
have a high school diploma or GED provide transcripts from your high school and any colleges  or universities you have attended complete the MCC Computerized Placement Test (CPT).

 

Some courses of study allow you to be enrolled in the GED program and a certificate program at Mayland at the same time. For more information, consult the MCC Catalog or select our online chat.

 

Do I have to take the SAT or ACT?

 

No, you will take a placement test when you enroll at Mayland to help us determine the sequence of classes you should take, but the SAT and/or the ACT are NOT required. Click here for a sample placement test

 

What if I don't know what I want to do?

 

We have a career counselor available in the Counseling Center. You can take career assessments that help you determine your interests. If you'd like more information, call the Center at 828.765.7351, extension 289 or select our online chat.

 

How much is tuition at Mayland?

 

If you are a North Carolina resident, tuition is $66.50 per credit hour up to 16 credit hours. So, the maximum tuition for a North Carolina resident is $958.20 per semester. For out-of-state residents, please select our online chat for more information.

 

When can I register for classes?

 

Priority Registration for the Spring, 2012 semester is October 31st through November 4th, on the Main Campus in Spruce Pine [map]. Please contact your advisor or Student Development at Mayland to schedule an appointment. Questions? Select our online chat for more information.

 

Do classes transfer?

 

Yes! You may begin your four-year degree at MCC! Earn up to two years of general education courses commonly recognized by most major universities.

Transfer degrees offered include:

  • Associate in Arts - Pre-Business Administration
